How do you use smoked salt?
The appeal of our smoked salt products lies in the fact that they can be used in a wide variety of ways. Gone are the days when there was a table salt shaker in the cupboard, used only when you wanted to season a quick dinner, only to accidentally use too much and worry that the food was now ruined.
Oh no, salt has changed. With so many products now available, your taste buds will discover a whole new world, and some of the everyday dishes you’ve been cooking all your life will take on a whole new flavour. Smoked salt knows no bounds.
Are you trying smoked salt for the first time?
Given the vast array of options available, the world of smoked salt can certainly be daunting. Indeed, the sheer complexity of it all can sometimes seem confusing.
It is therefore important to bear in mind that ALL our products are cold-smoked using unprocessed wood, which means you NEVER need to worry about the use of artificial flavourings.
When you first open the product, the aroma is intense and it’s certainly worth trying it enthusiastically with almost anything. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that it is, after all, salt, and you should avoid over-salting.
How should you use smoked salt?
There are so many different ways to use smoked salt that, once you’ve got to know it a little, you’ll soon start coming up with new recipes of your own.
Nevertheless, to give you some inspiration to get you started, here’s a brief overview of a few ways to use smoked salt.
For meat dishes
If you’re looking into smoked salt, we’re going to go out on a limb and assume you’re a pretty good cook. With that in mind, you’re probably no stranger to dry-curing meat before cooking to bring out the juiciest flavour.
Smoked salt is likely to become your new best friend. Whether you’re cooking a tuna steak or dry-aged beef, rubbing it with any kind of smoked salt before cooking will deepen the flavour and give the dish such a lovely crust that your guests will think you’ve actually invited a professional into your kitchen!
As a substitute for bacon bits
There are so many great things about being a vegetarian, but to be honest, going without bacon bits is torture. An absolutely fantastic addition to almost anything, but how do you find a plant-based substitute for it?
Sprinkling smoked salt over eggs and salads gives your food all sorts of different flavours and that lovely smoky bacon crumble sensation. Just whisk a pinch of smoked salt into a dressing and use it on any salad to experience the unique flavour of smoked salt.
A little salt always goes well with sweet things
A smoked salt caramel cheesecake is our dream dessert. As the grains are slightly coarser than ordinary table salt, they appear in sweet dishes as delicious little crystals that seem to dance across the tongue.
Even when whipped into ice cream, the distinctive flavour of smoked salt is so delicate and delightful. It’s definitely worth giving this a go at home!
In sauces and accompaniments
Before reading this article, you might have been under the impression that ordinary sweetcorn couldn’t get any better, literally. But have you ever tried mixing smoked salt into the corn before cooking?
This is exactly the sort of thing we’re always talking about when it comes to smoked salt. Simple, everyday dishes are transformed into something new and exciting with the help of smoked salt.
With potatoes and pasta
Think potatoes can’t get any better? You’re wrong.
Sprinkle a little smoked salt on your potatoes whilst they’re baking and, wow, you’ll have discovered a whole new world. During baking, smoked salt helps to make food crispy by drawing out some of the moisture and locking in its smoky flavour.
When it comes to pasta, simply add a pinch of smoked salt to your pasta dish or try cooking the pasta in water with smoked salt!
For breakfast
Eggs Benedict are the perfect way to start the day, aren’t they? Yes, but when you add smoked salt to the mix, you’ll truly stumble upon something fit for kings and queens.
Smoked salt is a subtle yet intense way to start the day. We particularly recommend adding a little smoked salt to your avocado. This way, the creamy avocado is perfectly balanced by the grains of smoked salt, making your breakfast particularly delicious.
For cocktails
Now we’re talking.
A Bloody Mary needs salt, doesn’t it? Well, perhaps.
A Bloody Mary needs smoked salt. There’s nothing quite like starting your day with a cocktail garnished with flakes of smoked salt.
Smoked salt even goes perfectly with a margarita. The taste of a well-deserved holiday – treat yourself to some smoked salt to take your cocktails to a whole new level.
